Ally
Hello!
Hi, my name is Allyson, but my friends call me Ally. I was born and raised in Samoa but did most of my high school and tertiary education in New Zealand. I have lived and worked in multiple countries throughout my life in a range of different careers from photography studio manager, to being an international student support officer (at a NZ university) to working in development projects in the Pacific. I am now living in France and am a mother of three, helping my kids with both their French homework as well as keeping their English-speaking levels alive and well. I love travelling and meeting people from all walks of life and different backgrounds. My hobbies include hiking, choral singing, reading, a range of sports, including tennis, squash, netball and I have even done underwater rugby. I think it is very important to practice speaking a language that one is learning, as it can provide one of the fastest way to progress. I’m looking forward to conversing with a whole range of people at whatever level of conversation that they are at. The most important attribute to have in learning a language, is to be willing to learn and not be afraid to make mistakes. Above all, to have fun doing it and this is what I want to bring to the whole experience.
I've been travelling since I was a young kid. My first trip overseas was to the USA when I was 6 years old. As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to travel the globe and learn about different places and people. I lived in Australia for a year when I was 13 years old and travelled to Brunei on my own when I was 18. Since then, I have travelled throughout Asia, Europe and north American nations. On my bucket list, I want to travel to African and South American countries as well as Russia. I believe that we can learn something new everyday, whatever age, race or sex you are. Just be open to the opportunities and they can enrich your life.

Teaching Style
My preferred teaching style is relaxed but goal orientated. I believe in getting to know students and what they want out of the experience. Whether its setting their goals at the initial contact or for each lesson that follows. It is a one on one identifying of what it is that a student wants out of the tutoring or lesson. It may be that they had a hard day at work and just wanted to talk on lighter topics that is everyday fun facts, or there is a more focused agenda of which they have to give a presentation to work colleagues. It is important to ensure that I am meeting the student's needs from the beginning and throughout their progress.
