Lisa
Hello!
Hey there! My name is Lisa, and I'm originally from Chicago but recently retired from teaching and moved to Northwest Ohio. Learning a new language can be fun and exciting. One of the most effective ways to become fluent is by having conversations with others about topics that interest you. This way, you can pick up on the subtleties of the language, understand how different words and phrases connect to each other, practice your listening skills, and expand your vocabulary. The best part is that these conversations can happen naturally as we build a relationship by discussing everyday things like hobbies, current events, or favorite activities. Conversations are also a great way to learn a new language because, during our discussions, I can also easily incorporate mini-grammar lessons, whether foundational, primary, or advanced, depending on your needs or preferences. Additionally, I can use props and visual aids whenever necessary to illustrate some of the more complex concepts and ideas often present in the English language. My students, who experience the most success, possess qualities such as diligence, motivation, goal setting, and a willingness to put in a lot of hard work and effort. Also, they like to laugh, enjoy life, and have fun while learning. As an educator, I have helped my students achieve many of their goals. These goals have included gaining academic knowledge, developing life skills, and mastering English. I have also worked with students and their families who faced difficulties expressing themselves or attaining their goals due to gaps in their English proficiency. As I became more aware of this obstacle to their progress, I decided to earn a degree in teaching English as a Second Language. This degree provided me with practical strategies and tools to support my students in reaching their maximum potential. However, I also learned that having a degree isn't always enough. Sometimes, we need to put ourselves in someone else's shoes to understand the challenges they face when learning something new. This year, I had the opportunity to spend three months in Mexico, immersing myself in the culture, living with the locals, and learning the language. It was an unforgettable experience! Now, I can offer my students the best support and guidance from both an educational and experiential perspective. I am so excited about your desire to learn English; with hard work, effort, and a little patience, you will be speaking fluently in no time! I look forward to starting our conversations soon!
I'm originally from Chicago but recently retired from teaching and moved to Northwest Ohio. I love spending time with my family, especially my two grandsons. I'm a certified yoga teacher, and I love practicing yoga in my free time, along with reading, writing, sharing stories, traveling, and taking my dog Athena on walks. I recently had the opportunity to spend three months in Mexico, immersing myself in the culture, learning to speak Spanish, and getting to know the people there. It was an unforgettable experience!
