Hi! I'm Steve. I live in Vermont, a small state in the US. I have a Master's degree in English, over 25 years of teaching experience, and am TEFL certified. I have lived in Florida, Washington state, and North Carolina, and Germany, where I was born. I can relate to the frustrations of learning a language. I am trying to learn Spanish and always make mistakes. But learning another language can also be rewarding. Because of my teaching experience, I feel more comfortable with organized lessons. I enjoy teaching vocabulary--idioms, phrasal verbs, and the specialized vocabulary of business. I also like working on pronunciation. If you want just conversation, that's great! My family emigrated to the United States from Germany when I was a kid, and I have always wanted to learn about other cultures and places. I have traveled in 46 out of 50 states, Europe, and Central America. One of my goals is to travel to South America, especially Ecuador and Peru. I have a cat and listen to music 24/7.

I'm a patient teacher who understands that learning is not always easy. A learner needs time to speak, listen, and learn vocabulary and grammar. Listening is one skill that is often overlooked. Even if you are a fluent speaker, if you cannot understand an English speaker, it is difficult to have a conversation. I want to help beginning-to-intermediate students. However, I enjoy learning and look forward to conversations with intermediate and advanced speakers. And if you need help preparing for tests, I have many years experience preparing students.
