Hello, and welcome! I’m Stephen, and I would be delighted to be your tutor on Cambly. I hold a BSc in History and International Politics, subjects that sparked my lifelong curiosity about people, cultures, and the forces that shape our world. My professional path began in finance, but it was in tourism that I discovered my true passion. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of visiting more than 70 countries and living in several of them, experiences that deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity and reminded me of the many connections we all share. For the past 15 years, I have made my home in Southeast Asia with my wife and our two children—an adventure that has been as enriching as any journey abroad. Raising a family in this dynamic and diverse part of the world has taught me the value of patience, adaptability, and open-mindedness. It has also given me a deeper understanding of how language and culture shape the way we learn, communicate, and connect with one another. As a tutor, I value building supportive, encouraging relationships with my students. I take pride in tailoring lessons to individual goals—whether that means preparing for a job interview, engaging with key texts, or simply practicing conversational English to feel more confident. I believe learning should be both enjoyable and effective, because when we’re engaged, progress comes naturally. Now in my third year teaching on Cambly, I look forward to making your language journey both rewarding and uniquely your own. I have a wide range of interests, including technology (especially AI), food, music, literature, languages, travel, and my degree subjects—history and international politics. Life has given me plenty of opportunities to explore them all in different ways! Seven years ago, my family and I moved from Malaysia to Cambodia, where my daughter was born. I also home-school my son, who’s quite advanced for his age—an adventure that keeps me learning just as much as he does. Whenever we can, we love to travel around the country, exploring Cambodia’s history, culture, and hidden corners together. In my spare time, I enjoy studying finance, which challenges me to keep thinking critically about how the world works. All of these experiences fuel my teaching, as I bring curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine love of learning into every lesson.
