Dana
Hello!
Hi! :) I'm Dana, a U.S. American building a life abroad. I know what it's like to learn a new language & culture as a complete beginner. I love helping people build their confidence in English. Can't wait to meet you!
I'm a former Registered Dental Hygienist who left clinical practice to work online, so I could see more of the world outside my home country. I don't live as an "expat," I live as an immigrant, which changes how you experience a place. From figuring out the details of day-to-day living, to the slow process of actually belonging somewhere new. It's given me a real feel for what it's like to rebuild your life in a language that isn't your first one. I'm currently in Brasil, but I've also spent time in Peru, Colombia, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Every place has taught me something new about culture, history, and connection (plus a lot of seriously delicious food along the way). Language fascinates me. Not just how to speak it, but how it reshapes the way our brains work, and how we see the world. That fascination is what led me to teaching. I hold a TEFL certificate and I've done the work myself: learning a new language, in a new country, starting from zero. So when you get frustrated over a complicated verb tense or feel embarrassed about forgetting a word, I know exactly what you're going through. Talking with people makes my heart happy, and I'd love to hear about your unique perspective on the world.
