Aya
Hello!
Hi, I'm Aya! I'm a writer from the U.S. with a degree in Anthropology & Linguistics, and a Teaching English as a Second Language certificate. My favorite things are reading, writing, traveling, and learning about other cultures. There's no need to feel shy with me -- in fact, if you feel shy, I'm the teacher for you! I'm learning two languages myself (Spanish and Portuguese) and I know exactly how you feel and what your concerns might be. I really appreciate connecting with students who are sincere about improving their English and who are trying to push themselves to a higher level.
Favorite subjects of conversation: animals, food, travel stories, history, cultural topics, mythology, classical astrology, Mayan astrology, science, and philosophy. I also love any kind of game: chess, cards, board games, video games... all the games. I'm currently working on a science fiction novel when I'm not teaching English or hanging with friends.

I'm an encouraging and understanding teacher, since I'm also learning a new language and know how you feel. I prefer connecting with students who really want to focus on improving their level, not just having casual conversation. However, our lessons don't have to be serious and formal unless you want that. I've done some really fun things with my students! We've read books together, as well as scripts from Friends or How I Met Your Mother. With one of my students, we read one Meditation from Marcus Aurelius every day and then discussed the Stoic philosophy. With others, I've played games, translated poetry, written Facebook posts, and talked about song lyrics. I'm interested in almost every subject, so I'm happy to participate in whatever motivates you to learn English!
