Hello!

Hello and thank you for your interest! I'm Sherry (or Sher) and am really looking forward to meeting you and helping you improve your English speaking goals. I am a native English speaker and have lived in the state of Missouri my entire life. My family comes from El Salvador, so I also speak Spanish fairly fluently. I've also been learning French for the last 3 years. I am married, with two older kids, living in a slightly rural area. We have alpacas, sheep, dogs, cats, and a bird. My hobbies include knitting, spinning yarn, dyeing yarn, needle felting, weaving, and crocheting. I try to spend a little bit of time knitting every day, making things such as hats, socks and sweaters. I've even made a few items from the fiber provided by our alpacas and sheep.Recently, I have decided to learn to play the drums and I am also getting into learning digital art. I enjoy learning new things all the time and have learned so much from my students, whom I appreciate so much! In addition to these hobbies, I also enjoy cooking, gardening, exercising and just being outside, appreciating nature. I am a very relaxed and patient person. As someone who is learning French, I understand the importance of patience and practice, practice, practice. Learning a new language can be so challenging and requires dedication and perseverance. I would really love to help you attain your goals. Let's have a chat! I prefer speaking with adults, but will speak with children that are truly willing to learn.

I've taught English speakers to read, and have also taught kids how to knit. I have worked with a lot of people from other countries and can understand a wide variety of accents.

Specialties

Teaching Style

For me, teaching is not only about lecturing to you while you simply listen, but really working together to determine what your needs are. I know that every student is different and you each want to focus on different areas.I want my students to learn by asking questions and working through discussions (and feeling comfortable and relaxed the whole time). Overall, I think that as you gradually learn more about your students, you can figure out what style of teaching works best. Everyone is different in how they learn. Once I determine a student's weakness, I try to find resources that can help.
