Hello!
Hi, I am interested in too many things! I'm learning Spanish here in Costa Rica and practice for at least 20 minutes a day- almost every day. Speaking with others is so, so important. I want to encourage students to speak with each other often in English. Speak with your friends and acquaintances or join or start a group to practice with. Do you want to learn Business English? In the US, I worked in many industries and businesses, as well as starting a construction company and many years later a massage and yoga studio. After receiving a TESOL from Arizona State University, I recently received a Certificate in Business English. I've taught in Brazil to teenagers and adults, as well as teaching 1-1 in the US. I look forward to working with you, too!
As i said, I am interested in many things. I play the ukulele and hand percussion. I have even written a few songs- I recently wrote a blues song in Spanish- not with many words! lol. I like to hike, swim, adventure travel and to ride my bicycle. I enjoy writing, visiting new cultures, hearing stories of people's lives and writing. I love my new pueblo and getting to know the community here in Costa Rica. Since I wrote that Bio, I broke my arm and had to have a reverse shoulder surgery- no fun. I've retired the bike for now, swimming is limited though I continue to the ocean. I have moved to a new town in Costa Rica close to a river which is also great for refreshment. It's very low just now, though it is the rainy season here. As with many places, the rains are not what they have been in the past. Still playing the uke and writing and enjoying getting to know people and what they are up to in their lives.

I believe that meeting every student where they are at the moment, and guiding them to where they want to go, is most important. How I work with the student will depend on the student's style of learning, their purpose in learning English and their interests. It's important to help with pronunciation and to make speaking fun. I like to use idioms or slang English where it is commonly used, especially if the student is planning to travel to an English speaking country or work for a global company where idioms are often used. It is most important for you, as the student to be willing to take risks and make mistakes. The more you are willing to try the pronunciation, the quicker you learn. I make my class a safe space for taking risks and making mistakes. Using articles, class materials and videos are all good strategies for teaching. I've found there are some great free apps for instruction that are useful in learning and teaching.
