Vernon
Hello!
I am a retired academic living in Bristol in the UK. I am a keen painter of landscapes (mostly acrylic, some oil) and also a keen reader and writer of fiction. My academic interests were in the emergence of international institutions in the 20th century and international politics. I am also a keen gardener!
I was born in Leicestershire in 1961 and was educated at Bosworth College, Desford; University of East Anglia (1979-82). St Peter's College Oxford and Nuffield College, Oxford (1983-87). I worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Bristol from 1987-2017. Since retirement I have published one sci fi novel and have held two solo art exhibitions in Bristol. I paint land and seascapes in acrylic and oils.

Teaching Style
Teaching for me involves engaging a mature student (16 years and above) in a subject that they are interested in and setting out an informal and friendly conversation around the topic at hand. I also find it useful to suggest short readings (the texts of which I can supply) to structure a debate and give some context to a specific learning outcome. Above teaching should be fun. I
