Hi, I’m Nicky. Thanks for visiting my profile page. I’ve been a Cambly tutor since 2022, and I love the unique opportunity for international communication and cross-cultural sharing this platform offers. I speak with a regular southern English accent (my spelling is British English, naturally), and I get a lot of pleasure from helping people become more fluent and confident in my language through relaxed, informal conversation - helping you expand your vocabulary and express what you really want to say in language that’s closer to natural native speech. I see my role as a Cambly tutor as, ideally, a combination of host, supporter, encourager, educator and inspirer. I can be flexible when tasks are time-sensitive, or additional sessions are needed to prepare for an upcoming event. But I’m also working hard to maintain a healthy work-life balance, so I try to keep weekends for gardening, meeting friends or just reading a book and relaxing, where possible. I am also a carer for my elderly mother, who lives with us and has dementia, so the number of hours I can offer each week sometimes varies because of medical appointments and other commitments. Thanks in advance for your understanding. ;-) If no vacant booking slots are showing, but you feel you’d like us to meet and perhaps work together, please still get in touch. We learn best when we’re having fun and the discussion is engaging and enjoyable. I like creating and sharing interesting resources, and providing the kind of atmosphere in which you can naturally increase your vocabulary, fluency and confidence whilst enjoying unselfconscious, natural conversation, just as you would with a friend. I also find the increasingly sophisticated possibilities offered by AI invaluable in my work. Used thoughtfully, it enables me to tailor materials much more closely to each person, their interests and their particular language needs - something that wasn’t nearly so easy to do when I began working on Cambly. With your permission, I can also record sessions and use the transcripts to identify patterns in your spoken English and give you much more specific feedback and guidance about how you can improve. I enjoy helping people prepare for interviews - and then hearing how it all went! I do need to meet you first, or at least receive some details in advance, if you’re looking for worthwhile interview practice. I can then research the university or company, create questions specifically for the role, and give you detailed feedback and suggestions about how to improve your chances. If you want to change career, work for a multinational company, or you’re not even sure what kind of job would suit you, we can explore options together. I’m also happy to support students preparing for the speaking section of the IELTS English language exam, and have coached a number of successful candidates during my time on Cambly. I love it when people bring their own material or let me know what they’re interested in, but as topics suggest themselves during our conversations, I’m happy to suggest and devise resources too. If required, I can provide materials for independent work and will happily support and challenge you, review your progress and make comments and suggestions. If all you want are relaxed English chats with very little feedback or commentary, that’s fine too. I've learned that no two people approach language learning in the same way, and everyone’s preferences and requirements are unique.
