Sharon
Hello!
Hello! My name is Teacher Sharon and I'm so happy to meet you! I have been in the education field for a little more than 27 years. In that time I've had the honor of working with young and adult students in the United States and overseas; in public and private schools. I've taught every grade from Pre-Kindergarten to 9th grade, and several subjects in high school including English, United States and Micronesian History, Geography, United States Civics, Science, and Literature classes. I've been an educator not only in the United States, but also in South Korea, on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and on the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. Additionally, I have taught English as a second language (ESL) to students while living in South Korea, and for 3 years while working with VIPKid, an online teaching platform similar to Cambly Kids. I've been with Cambly for 4 years.
One thing people notice about me is my smile; sharing joy with others is a core value of mine. Whether I’m singing to someone at the grocery store or snuggling with my cat, Asher, I believe in spreading happiness. My service dog, Samson, and my horse, Chester, are also vital parts of my life, providing me with steady support and peace. I also enjoy growing things. I have many plants in my home and enjoy growing greens and vegetables for my family to eat from my garden. Growing flowers to brighten everything around makes me so happy. Music has always been a very large part of my life. I love playing the piano and different types of flutes. My husband and I play music together, which makes my soul soar like the eagles in the sky. I really enjoy teaching students how to play the piano and flute as well. Teaching is who and what I am. I started when I was young with tutoring my fellow classmates in middle school with their subjects after school. I can't wait to get to meet you and learn all about YOU in class!

Teaching Style
As with most teachers, I care very much about my students. Let me give you some examples of situations with past students. During my time as an educator, I was also a principal for 11 years. Even though I was an administrator and had the respect of my students, they also knew I was someone they could trust. After school on a daily basis, students would come to me for private counseling; students and I would play basketball or soccer; I would be asked to visit student homes for dinner; and we would have family get-togethers outside of school functions such as picnics, games, the beach, or hiking.I was also a very popular teacher on VIPKid, where several students stayed with me for all three years. Parents consistently gave me 5/5 star reviews, frequently mentioning my teaching abilities and how much I care for my students. Part of my teaching philosophy is that if the student and teacher are not having fun during class, the teacher is not doing her job. When students smile, they are more relaxed and ready to learn. Learning should be enjoyable, and it's my job to understand how to reach each student. To help my students learn, I use Total Physical Response (TPR), many props like stuffed animals, flashcards, small whiteboards, magnetic letters and numbers, science equipment, and so much more! My cat, Asher, or my service dog, Samson, have been known to join my class now and then, and sometimes I even play one of my musical instruments. There is no such thing as a "stupid mistake." Every error is a chance to learn. You will never hear me make fun of a student; instead, we will learn why it was an error and how to correct it. No one wants to feel like a failure. I believe every student can learn to speak and write English. When students know their teacher truly cares, when they feel safe in the classroom, and when they have fun, the beauty of learning English takes place!
