Ana
Hello!
Hi! I'm Ana. I would love to meet you where you're at and help you move to where you want to be with your English learning goals. I am a TELF Certified Native English speaker from the United States, with what is considered here to be a "neutral" accent. However, I have also studied abroad pretty extensively, and have been on language learning journeys of my own. Learning and practicing another language is a lifelong journey, and along the way it can invoke a lot of different emotions: embarrassment, excitement, and even shame. However, I want to make English fun for you, and provide you a safe space to practice and learn without judgment! I am excited to meet you.
Hello! My name is Ana Simone, but you can call me Simone. I am from a rural, Southern region of the United States originally, but have lived in the urban/ suburban Eastern region for many years, so I have what is considered a "neutral"/ professional American accent. I have a Master's of Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore. I know what it is like to learn another language and need someone to practice with so that you don't forget. Becoming comfortable with a new language is a lifelong journey which takes continuous practice. We practice using our native language everyday, even though we don't think about it like that. Similarly, we must practice our new languages as frequently as possible to achieve native-level fluency. I am very patient, and I'm able to gently correct small mistakes so that you are able to consistently improve without feeling the shame or embarrassment that all too often comes with making conversation in a foreign language. I'm excited to help you on your language learning journey! I believe that having fun helps you remember more, and will respect your busy schedule, while remaining flexible to your needs.

Teaching Style
As a teacher I am patient, personable, and engaging. I try to incorporate American culture into lessons by recommending and discussing (ungraded) English comprehension assignments like English language movies, music, and TV shows. I believe that we learn best by doing- by recognizing and stepping outside of our comfort zones. I will work with you to understand how you like to learn and accommodate our time together to match. If you are more visual, I will use flashcard and pictures. If you are more receptive to audio, we can spend more time talking. If you are more tactical, we can practice potential interactions in English, and focus more on writing. I do not believe that there is a one size fits-all approach to teaching.
