Hello!

Hello! My name is Courtney.

I live in New York State with my talented musician husband, and our two beautiful cats, R.J. MacReady and Agent Dale Cooper. Although I have a passion for teaching typical elementary school subjects (primarily language arts, with a focus on creative writing), I also have many other passions, including films and film making, TV shows, video games, popular culture, music, cooking, and cats. I love to teach a variety of subjects, and I love to incorporate popular culture into my lessons. I love to do reader's theater and script reading. We can practice reading and using proper emotions while reading scripts from your favorite TV shows, movies, and video games. It is a really fun way to practice English! My Movie/TV/Video Game interests: horror movies (The Shining, Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Creepshow, The Thing, Silence of the Lambs) non-horror movies (Ghostbusters, Running Man, Jackie Brown, Valley Girl, Perfect Getaway) classic TV (Maude, Dick Van Dyke Show, Columbo, Odd Couple, Brady Bunch, I Love Lucy, Golden Girls) contemporary TV (What We Do in the Shadows, Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Dexter, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, Walking Dead, Cobra Kai, American Horror Story, RuPaul's Drag Race) video games (Resident Evil 2 (original and remake), 4, & 7, Dead Rising 2 Off the Record, Alien Isolation, Evil Within 1 & 2, Animal Crossing, and Wario Games). My favorite movie directors are George Romero, John Carpenter, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, Brian DePalma, and Sam Raimi. I also enjoy talking about the 1980s, as I grew up then. Most of the music I love is from the 1970s and 1980s like Alice Cooper, Scorpions, Motley Crue, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Iron Maiden, Guns n Roses, AC/DC, and just about any music from the 1980s. Ally of LGBTQ this is a safe space. .

Teaching Style

I have been teaching online ESL since 2017, and I am comfortable working with children and adults, as well as various learning levels. We can practice fluency, sight words, phonics, letter sounds, comprehension, and all typical grammar concepts such as conjunctions, contractions, adverbs, etc. I love to do reader's theater and script reading. We can practice reading and using proper emotions while reading scripts from your favorite TV shows, movies, and video games. It is a really fun way to practice English! I also enjoy creating my own curriculum and learning materials. My teaching style is more laid-back, with a high focus on humor. I love to laugh, and I love for my students to laugh, be relaxed, and have fun.
