Hello!

Hi Students, I'm teacher Shirley from Canada. I have two university degrees, a Bachelor and Master of Arts, and I have also taken several certificates in teaching English. I have been teaching ESL for the past 9 years, 7 of them on line. I taught international adults in group classes on the EF platform for two years and have just finished five years of on-line classes for early learners, one to one, in China on the VIPKID platform. I have been Teaching with Cambly for the past 10 months. I speak French and I also have some basic klnowledge of Spanish. I love meeting people from around the world and learning about their culture and way of life. I am very understanding of the difficulties that students might face, and I adapt my classes as much as possible to help them meet their goals in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. I firmly believe that speaking is the key to learning any language so I will do my very best to help you improve your spoken-English and increase your confidence. I hope to see you in my class in the near future. Teacher Shirley

I have been teaching ESL for 9 years, after spending several years in Sales and Marketing for industrial companies. My first experiences in teaching English were to business people in my French-speaking milieu. I then took several courses in TESOL and TFL and have been teaching on-line for 8 years. I have several interests including international travel, photography, genealogy. I am married and I have two grown children and one grandchild. I live near Montreal in Quebec, Canada.

Teaching Style

I put a lot of effort into building rapport and engaging students. Classes always begin with introductions if there are new students. We then have a warm-up period where we might talk about some of your recent experiences, Your interests or a general subject to gain an assessment of your skills and acquired knowledge. Depending on the length of the class, we might also review what you have learned in earlier classes.from the Cambly Library, review some of the rules of grammar or pronunciation that they might need. I have taught phonics for several years and sometimes it helps to explain why certain things are pronounced the way they are to facilitate reading in the future. If the content is heavy we take occasional breaks to promote questions, give relevant examples or to give feedback on what you are learning. If you wish I can suggest some things that you might study as homework. You will find that classes go by very quickly.
