Joel
Hello!
Hello! My name is Joel, and I am a native English speaker from Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. I’m also a TEFL-certified English teacher with a bachelor’s degree in English from an accredited American university. I have over ten years of experience teaching students of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. To date, I have taught more than 10,000 classes while maintaining a student satisfaction rating of 98% or higher. I believe that an English class should be safe and supportive, fun and dynamic, practical and real-world, but above all, it should be customized to meet the individual student’s skill level and language learning goals. Our classes will use interesting and interactive materials to teach you the fundamentals of English grammar. We’ll build your vocabulary, but more importantly, your confidence in speaking English. You’ll be having authentic English conversations from your very first lesson that you can use in the real world. Our classes will focus on grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, conversation skills, business English—that’s job interviews, presentations, and meetings—English for travel, and much more. Maybe you’re just beginning your English language journey and only speak a few basic words. Maybe you’ve studied English in the classroom but have no idea how to talk to native speakers in the “real world.” Maybe you’re an intermediate or advanced English speaker who is simply looking to practice and perfect your abilities. Whatever you’re looking for, I’ve taught students just like you. I look forward to our first class and to helping you achieve your language-learning goals. Thank you!
I play the guitar, write short stories and poetry, listen to jazz music, and love to cook! I have traveled all over the world, for both work and pleasure, and I am passionate about discovering new cultures, cuisines, and languages. Most of all, I enjoy meeting and chatting with people from all walks of life. While I'm a Chicago native, I currently reside in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I study Spanish and run a small retail clothing business with my wife.

Teaching Style
My teaching style is very laid-back and conversational. I want my students to feel comfortable and secure. As a student of a foreign language myself (Spanish), I know that learning a new language involves making a lot of mistakes along the way, which can be both embarrassing and discouraging. The last thing I want is for my students to feel self-conscious or anxious about this remarkable and life-enriching endeavor. Our lessons will always be a safe space in which you will receive patient guidance and targeted, non-judgmental coaching. I also like to focus on a student's personal learning style (everyone is different) and tailor my lessons to his or her unique language learning goals.
