Carolyn
Hello!
**If you do not see a time you want, please feel free to message me to set up a private lesson at a time that works for us :)** Hello! My name is Carolyn and I’m from the United States, near Washington, D.C. There are people from all over the world where I grew up, and my parents are immigrants, so I was surrounded by many cultures and languages from an early age. That early exposure, plus an amazing Spanish tutor I met in high school, is what first sparked my love for languages and connecting across cultures—and that’s shaped my life ever since. Most recently, I spent seven months living in Asia. I studied Mandarin intensively in Taiwan, traveled on my own through Japan and Korea, and joined local language exchanges. Those experiences taught me a lot about communication, culture, and what it really takes to build confidence in a second language. Over the years, "exchanging languages" with people, both teaching and learning, has given me so much insight into the world, its people, and myself. And I’ve made some very close friends along the way. I bring all of that into my lessons now, helping students practice real conversation and gain cultural awareness. I’m excited to meet learners from all over the globe and be part of their language journey. Helping you all understand American culture as you teach me about yours. Let's chat!
I love to read—books, articles, essays—anything that helps me keep up with the world and discover new ideas. I also enjoy cooking, drawing, and journaling. Meeting and talking with new people is one of my favorite ways to learn, and spending time abroad gave me a window into so many different perspectives. I’m also an enthusiastic language learner myself! Right now I’m learning Chinese and Japanese, and I’m hoping to add Korean soon.

Teaching Style
My lessons are casual and student-centered - just think of lessons with me as being like chatting with a friend in a cozy café. I give students the freedom to choose topics that interest them, gently correct mistakes, and share tips for sounding natural in English. My goal is to reduce anxiety, encourage curiosity, and help students express themselves clearly and confidently.
