Hello!
As a teacher I want to be a support and a gentle encourager for the English language learners that are in my classes. The knowledge with which they come to class is valuable to their future learning. This knowledge can provide content for lessons. I want to support their learning and help them build a knowledge base that is theirs. They should leave my class ready to continue building their future in English language development.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Laboratory Technology and worked as a Medical Technologist. When our children were born, I chose to stay home and teach them. Reading was a weak subject in our family. Through teaching our children reading and other subjects, I developed a love of teaching. I have a TESL certificate and hope to continue teaching students English in the future. This past year I volunteered in Adult ESL classes at a local community college to gain experience as a classroom teacher. The classes were both in-person and on a Zoom platform. In addition to general English, I have an interest in teaching medical terminology to student wishing to work in the health care profession.

My style is to be sensitive to my students and their needs. I am able to engage in light conversation and dissect a sentence into its grammatical parts, depending on the need of my students. I love people and I am motivated to help students learn English in order to have the conversations that are fun and light or that are needed for a career. One of my strategies is to use pictures. These work for the very beginner to build vocabulary or higher-level students for telling stories, and writing paragraphs.
