I was in the medical field for 32 years. I have nearly 13,000 chats on Cambly and over 354,000 chat minutes. I am a native English speaker from the United States. I currently live in Medellin, Colombia South America. I have a long history of teaching at many levels from Junior High School to University. I am a graduate of Boston University and I have a Master's Degree from Columbia University. I am registered with the National Tutor Association of America. I like to develop a meaningful and friendly relationship with each of my students and I have many students that have been with me for years. My classes are both learning and social experiences. Let’s face it — you want to improve your English speaking quickly. Nothing motivates students more than progress, so we usually get to work in the first class. I begin by correcting the grammatical errors that are common to your native language (for example, many Asian students struggle with the articles, /a/, /an/ and /the/ and Brazilians often find /ed/ difficult). This alone makes your speaking clearer and more natural. There are many ways to learn. Some students watch a movie between classes and we discuss it together. Others prefer Ted Talks, YouTube, reading books, picture descriptions, random computer-generated questions or Engoo News articles. Often we combine these methods — and we always include free talk. I teach idioms and phrasal verbs in practical, easy-to-understand ways. There is a clear path to improvement, and it works. I sometimes use AI as a supplement, but the true strength of my teaching is my personality. I love what I do — and it shows. I’m often fun, sometimes wacky, but always focused on your progress. I will provide you with a class summary within 12 hours from the end of each class to reinforce what you learned. Classes feel meaningful, not mechanical, and you leave with growing confidence in your ability to speak naturally. Whether you are a child or an adult, I can help you. I hope to see you soon!
