My name is James. I have not always been an English teacher. I retired in 2017 and retrained as an English teacher, something that I've secretly wanted to do for many years. I hold a 150 hour TEFL certificate, as well as an accredited certificates in IELTS preparation and OET preparation.. I also write, and have produced 23 books and numerous articles as a ghostwriter. William Shakespeare figures large on my bookshelf, along with Le Carre, and Tolkien, but I'm not just a bookworm, My other passions are the game of Rugby (This sport is NOT the same as American Football, it's far more interesting!), Travel has also been a large part of my life, having grown up in many parts of the world, and now I am lucky enough to live in the beautiful country of Botswana (It's in Africa, by the way).

With over 10,000 hours of student face to face contact time under my belt, I have been able to teach over 7700 people to speak REAL British English (Genuine English that is spoken by native English speakers that are not from the USA or Canada), as well as guiding students towards achieving good scores in their IELTS and OET tests. One thing that has become more and more obvious is that the traditional way of learning English is the most difficult and least effective way to learn how to speak the "language of Shakespeare", in fact it has been now been completely discredited over and over again, by leading researchers. Having read research paper after research paper, and discovering other English teaching pioneers such as A. J. Hoge, Robin Callan and Professor Steven Krashen, I took the step to develop my own method of teaching English. Like messrs Hoge and Callan, I have taken grammar by the scruff of its neck and thrown it into the long grass. Grammar is an analysis tool, it will not help you speak English, however it will be useful once English has been mastered and students want to know about the mechanics of the language.Think about it, when you were learning YOUR language did you study grammar? To learn English effectively you need to LISTEN and SPEAK. Once listening and speaking are mastered, the ability to read and write will quickly follow. All the while, the student's confidence will grow very quickly thereby assuring mastery of the English language.
