I believe in acts of service and contributing to different communities. I began working with kids back in 2012, as an assistant dance teacher. I'd help plan choreography and would accommodate students with special needs. I'd use different teaching methods and would devote more class time focusing on what the child was struggling with. I've also volunteered to read with the visually impaired and have spent a few summers working as a camp counselor. I eventually became a volunteer EMT and recently did caretaking for family. My fondness for different cultures also became very apparent early on; I studied Japanese and have adventurously done some traveling in the Philippines. My love of learning about different customs and lifestyles paired with my desire to help others has lead me to the Cambly platform. The thought of teaching the English language and in return possibly learning new customs is incredibly exciting!

When presenting lessons, I'm very big on visual learning. And so you'll oftentimes see me drawing on the virtual whiteboard. I pair that with enthusiasm and passion for a more effective learning experience. My other key components are positive reinforcement, repetition, and patience. The positive reinforcements let the student know they are on the right track and offers motivation to continue. Repetition goes without saying; it improves your ability to recall the material. Lastly, but certainly not least, patience. Students, especially children, can already be hard on themselves when they can't quite grasp something. Sometimes they lack focus because of other things going on in their life. It could be that the teaching method itself doesn't meet their needs, or maybe even a change in pace is necessary. Whatever the reason may be for the struggles, it's important to be understanding. Hurdles are to be expected in learning, and no age group is immune to that. Exhibiting flexibility and resourcefulness, as a teacher can prompt the student to keep moving forward and possibly lessen their fear of making mistakes. A win for both teacher and student.
