Hello, I'm Joey. I have met over 5,000 students and taught more than 20,000 classes in five years on Cambly! My teaching career started in the classroom in the US - mainly teaching Spanish. The next step in my career brought me to Costa Rica in 2017 teaching ESL to Costa Ricans. My online teaching career started in 2020 and continues to today. It helped me discover that I love meeting students from around the world and helping them achieve their English goals.
I am originally from Fairfax, Virginia in the United States. I taught Spanish there for years before "accidentally" moving to Costa Rica😉 I have been teaching ESL to Costa Ricans since 2017 and on Cambly since 2021.

I always follow my students' lead. For those interested in a more traditional learning style, we can use Cambly material or read online news articles, for example. Other students prefer to improve through casual conversation. I give corrections both verbally and written in the Cambly chatbox while we talk. I strongly suggest students review the corrections in the chat after every class to make sure they truly understand my corrections and memorize them. I also do job interview practice with students that request it. I ask typical interview questions and give them feedback on their answers. We can also talk about things like grammar, phrasal verbs, general questions, etc.
