Hello! My name is Hollie and I am an Online English teacher living in South America, with a love for learning and acquiring knowledge about anything and everything :) I have lived in 3 different countries: England, Australia and now I live in Brazil! I can speak 3 languages and have experience teaching English as a foreign language in both Spanish AND Portuguese. Languages and learning play a huge role in my life and have always interested me and even studied Latin at school - an interesting subject with incredible connections to our beautiful English language. I am on a journey of learning a language myself as I live in Brazil, so I can definitely relate to you and your struggles since Portuguese is such a challenging language! I believe that the key to learning English, or any new language, is to never give up or be afraid to make mistakes. Always be willing top try to attempt to read and decode new words! I feel it is also very important to find a way to make it engaging and personal to you! Watch movies in English and listen to music from our cultures. If you like Geography - we can try learning capital cities in English! If you love Art - we can take a look at and talk about different kinds of artistic expressions from all over the world! I dedicate a lot of my time to preparing extra material for my current students to give them something interesting to talk/learn about each week!
I am currently an online English teacher and a co-founder and director of an online English School. I also have some voluntary ESL teaching experience from my time in Ecuador. I have worked as a private tutor in both London and Sydney, covering a range of academic subjects ranging from Mathematics and Chemistry to Spanish, and am currently providing some ESL private sessions to children and adults, here in Brazil. Working with people of all ages has always given me joy: I am inspired by the multiple ways in which we can learn and my goal is always to instill confidence and motivation via my teaching methodologies. I am a bookworm, I love the ocean, I grow food in my garden and I love to bake/cook, cycle and practice yoga. I am a certified scuba-diver and have been lucky enough to go diving at some world famous sites in Thailand and Mexico, which was a life-long goal of mine! I can also skateboard and surf - I love all of the sports which make us feel alive! Wherever I travel to, I always strive to learn new skills and absorb the culture. I am open to talking about so many things and love to learn about other's lives and experiences, philosophies, goals and approaches to living life on this planet. I am always eager to learn more! Teaching and encouraging your confidence in the English language will also be a learning experience for me - the beautiful reality of online ESL teaching! I would say that my style is collaborative, with a focus on demonstration and facilitation for self-actualisation and critical thinking. My style of teaching depends on the student, their personality and their preferences. I can adapt well to a student's needs by implementing a range of teaching techniques, whilst my goal is to make their time learning interesting and engaging! I really value the importance of comprehension for a language learner and will encourage them to think of their own questions too, in order to engage them in conversation and to maximise their talking time!
