Matt

Hello everyone! My name is Matt Bird, and I'm here to help improve your English! I'm half New Zealand and Canadian. I have a large variety of interests, but am a bit more passionate about media and technology. I hope to get a chance to talk to you, but even if I don't; good luck on your language learning journey!
I grew up in both NZ and west coast Canada, my accent leans more towards Canadian and I try keep my dialect neutral. Though, I do have a good understanding of different countries spellings, accents, dialects and cultures. So if you have a preference let me know. In my free time, I like to do programming and am inspired by retro videogames. I am a very creative person and like to do anything I can get my hands on; art, music(I'm good at playing the ocarina and I like to sing... badly), writing, theatre, film, clay, textiles and dance. But my passion is definitely programming, the ability to create something from just thought and logic is a beautiful gift. I have been living in Japan for the last 3 years and can speak Japanese around the N2 level, so I understand the difficulty of learning a new language; and I congratulate you on taking the leap to improving yourself.

My teaching style is quite varied and adapts depending on the situation and desires of the learner. As someone who has taught themself Japanese, I understand how hard learning a language can be. So I am very patient and understanding towards people learning from me. I like to make lesson notes, so the student has something to take away and study and I also make the occasional worksheet when there is enough learned content to justify it.
