Hi! My name is Clark. I have been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) since the 1990s. I began as a tutor working with the Catholic Diocese in Dallas, Texas, working with African immigrants coming into the U.S from Nigeria and Somalia. I have also worked with immigrants from Thailand and Vietnam. I take notes during my lessons to keep track of the progress the student feels he/she is making, as well as my own thoughts and ideas regarding their progress. My teaching style is very flexible. Each of my students are different and unique from the other. I approach teaching with the understanding and recognition that teaching requires flexibility and understanding of the individual and their own needs and goals. For instance, if you already have a high level of competency in speaking and listening to English, you may benefit from deeper "free-flowing" conversations about subjects of specific interest to you. We would focus on vocabulary through articles and discussions regarding your current work experiences and any difficulties or challenges you feel are most important to you. However, if you are not so advanced in your abilities, we would focus on Cambly lessons (or those on a few other platforms) designed to help give you structured opportunities to improve and enhance your grammar and vocabulary. For learners at this level, feel-flowing conversations typically do not provide the structure necessary to improve or enhance the basic elements to English such as grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation. However, in the end, I am flexible and understanding of whatever path the student wants to go down in order to meet their goals and needs.

I was born and raised in the U.S. in Dallas, Texas. My career has spanned almost 50 years in areas including Finance, Business Consulting, Technology and Education and, very briefly, Law Enforcement curriculum development in the area of Violence Against Woment - VAWA. I have an Bachelors degree in Finance from the University of North Texas and a Masters degree (M.Ed) from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I love teaching as it has always been part of my life. In my life I have lived and taught English, as well as other subjects, in such countries as the U.S., Mexico, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica and Portugal. Over the years my teaching experienced has a broad range. Whether teaching business professionals how to engage economic assistance programs offered specifically to them, or teaching a person how to ride a bike, my goals are always oriented to my students and what they desire to learn or achieve. I seek only to give back both the time, patience and understanding which has been given to me over the years in the various pursuits and interests which motivated and directed my life. Whether you approach the need to learn English as a skill your employer has said you "need to develop and improve," or are simply learning English as a hobby and skill which will improve your traveling experiences in English-speaking countries, I will work to take you down the path to learn as much as possible and to grow as competent as your own desire and dedication will allow.
