Lori
Hello!
Hello! Teaching English skills has been a focus of my life for over 29 years, ever since I began homeschooling my own children. During that time, I taught many subjects, from learning how to read with phonics to advanced science and math courses. I have also worked as a choir director with children in K-5th grade. I just love to teach! After my last child graduated from high school, I began working with an ESL company in China. That’s where I discovered that teaching one-on-one is my specialty. Getting to know each unique student while teaching English skills has been a special joy for me.
In addition to being an ESL teacher, I am a beekeeper 🐝. I have about 180,000 bees in my back yard. I also enjoy exercising, gardening, reading, baking bread, knitting, and crossword puzzles.

Teaching Style
My teaching style is conversational in nature. Through a few initial questions, I quickly assess a student’s level of comfort and fluency with the English language. From there, I scaffold either up or down, adjusting my teaching to the student’s individual needs. I think it is important to enjoy the process of language acquisition, so the atmosphere in my classroom is full of fun and cheerfulness. I am patient and creative, always finding ways to communicate more effectively. I think of mistakes as opportunities to learn something new.
