Hello!
Hi! My name is Schalk. I am 31 years old and a teacher from Cape Town, South Africa. I have been teaching for around nine years and have had over almost 8k students from all over the world! I have met people from 60+ countries, with regular students from Japan, Korea, China, Türkiye and Brazil. Some of my clients include academics and international students, business professionals, aspiring travellers and more. I have almost ten thousand hours of teaching behind me, with experience in TEFL, IELTS, Oxford University Press Materials, SPA, Advanced Grammar and Vocabulary, and much more. My teaching style focuses on making sure you can use what you learn. I am a curious person that believes education and self-development are the keys to growing as an individual and succeeding as a group. As a former student of Linguistics, English and Sociology - I am keen to hone the professional skills one can only master within a workplace environment. As a tutor with almost ten thousand hours of English teaching experience, I hope to inspire not only the learning of the language, but also share the joy of experiencing and understanding popular Western Culture through English for the first time. I believe that this opportunity would provide me with the chance to grow personally, but also will allow me to help others in unearthing, and well as realising their full potential.

USE CASE IS KING! What does that mean? Knowing how and when you will be using the language is critical in judging what you should learn and how you should learn it. I believe in a clear, open understanding of your motivation and your desires - as that will direct us towards the best language solution for you as an individual. Feel free to speak with me about these points, and be honest with me when you feel you are not getting from your time what you feel you need to. Even a teacher with decades of teaching behind them would not be able to read minds. We must communicate openly when learning communication. I also believe in throwing my clients in the deep end - testing them with context discussions and implied meanings. Language learning is one of the most meaningful things we can do with our time - but it is not an easy thing. If you are not being challenged, and you are not trying new things, saying new words, phrasing new ideas - then you are not learning. I want my students to leave every lesson having learnt at least one new thing. Something valuable they can keep in their back pocket for those unexpected moments when they need a strange bit of vocabulary or have to identify some unusual phrase.
