Greetings! I'm a TEFL certified English teacher. Trained in the Theocratic Ministry School too. I love having conversations, tutoring IELTS students, and giving specialized English grammar sessions as needed. With globalization & most economies using English as a means of information exchange, teaching English is my way of helping ESL students to gain a footing in a world of opportunities. I’m a patient and creative tutor. Knowing the different first-language or cross-linguistic interference helps me tailor the material to the student (cross-linguistic interference is when English learners apply the grammar from their mother-tongue to another language). For example, at the moment I have a lot of INTERMEDIATE students whose first-language is Spanish. Most times, they make mistakes due to their first-language interference. If you asked a Spanish-speaking person HOW OLD ARE YOU? the typical answer is: “tiene trenta años,” which literally means “I have 30 years.” Notice they used the verb “to have.” Whereas, in English, we use the verb TO BE when talking about age. So we say “I AM 30 years old.” An in-depth understanding of my students backgrounds and interests certainly factors in and helps shape my teaching style with each student.
