Hello!

Hello, and welcome!! Who am I? My name is Roger Roest, born in the Netherlands, migrated and educated in Australia. I am a 69-year young native English speaker that is married to a wonderful Thai Lady. We reside in Thailand. How did my education get me here? I started my working live as an off sider on an earthen ware truck. Soon followed by a plumbing apprenticeship. Upon completion I moved on to work as a concrete floodway worker. I soon left this to take on an Electrical apprenticeship. After completion and becoming a tradesman I again changed focus an started my own Electrical company. Growing restless and wanting to learn more I once again went back to college and became an instrument and control technician. After some time, and my eagerness to continue to learn I again returned to the Brisbane college of further Education and completed my diploma in this field. Some years later I attended University to complete a degree in Instrumentation and control. I believe we are never too old to stop learning. Jumping ahead My original certification papers were left behind in Australia so I again completed a 120-hour Tefl course online. This was done in 26 hours as I knew the material through having prior knowledge of similar courses. It was also a great refresher. WORK! After many positions working all around the world, my teaching career started in Africa. I was employed as an Electrical Superintendent and my company wanted to have better public relations with the local native community. I had already completed certificates to teach in Australia furthering my enjoyment for knowledge. So, it was ‘I’ that was nominated to teach the local children, rather than ask me as I had no experience in this field with children, but it presented as a great challenge. I completed three and a half very successful and enlightening years in a village called Kongosi 85 klms from the Capital Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso West Africa teaching both adults and children. Online teaching I left the African post to spend more time at home in Thailand with my wife. By this time the teaching bug had entered my system and I yeaned to teach again. I applied to several online companies one of which was Cambly. I have been teaching on line now for nearly four years and have met and taught so many wonderful children. What makes me Unique? Nothing!! We are all unique. I am a humorous light-hearted person with a passion to teach. I love to see and hear student progress, see them smile as they achieve goals. Teaching isn’t a job, it is a wonderful way to experience and share young (and old) human lives as they grow and learn. How lucky are we (am I)? Teacher Burg. 😉

I love to ride my bicycle for exercise. I also enjoy a walk and swimming. I love adventure and comedy movies. I enjoy good food and dining out. My current passion is teaching online and having students improve their English abilities. Meeting new people makes this a fantastic job. I LOVE it!
