International Lunar Research Station
China and Russia are working together to build a special place on the moon. It is called the International Lunar Research Station. They want to do many science experiments there. Other countries can join too. The plan is to start building it after 2028.
The two countries agreed to work together in March 2021. They had a big meeting in Russia to talk about their plans. Many people from other countries were there too, including Germany, France, Italy, and more. They all talked about how to make the moon station.
Just this year, two new countries, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan, decided to join the project as well. It's a big deal because many countries want to learn more about the moon together!
People have thought about living on the Moon for a long time. In the past, some people wanted to move to the Moon and use its resources. They also wanted to explore the Moon more. But, it is not allowed for any country to own the Moon.
There are no countries that say they own any part of the Moon. There are things from different countries on the Moon, like flags and machines, but these are just for visiting, not for owning it.
All space, including the Moon, belongs to everyone. Space is for peaceful things, not for fighting or weapons. Countries like Russia, China, India, and the United States agree on this.
Some people used to think that going to the Moon first was very important. They thought it showed that their way of living was the best. But now, we know that the Moon is for everyone to share.
The Moon is very different from Earth. It doesn't have air like we do and it doesn't have water. This means the Moon doesn't change much because of wind or rain. Instead, tiny space rocks hit the Moon and slowly make changes to its surface. The Moon also doesn't have big pieces of land that move around like Earth does. It has less pull and it got cold faster because it's smaller.
A long time ago, volcanoes also helped shape the Moon, but they stopped working about 50 million years ago. The Moon has layers like a big ball, with a crust on the outside, a middle part called the mantle, and a core in the middle.
People and machines from Earth have gone to the Moon to find out what it is made of. Between 1969 and 1972, astronauts from the Apollo missions brought back 382 kilograms of Moon rocks and dust to Earth. Robots from the Soviet Union and China also brought back little pieces of the Moon.
We have learned a lot about the Moon from these rocks and by using telescopes and spacecraft to look at the Moon. Some rocks from the Moon even fell to Earth on their own, but we don't know exactly where they came from. There is still much more to discover because we haven't been to every part of the Moon.
The Moon has different things in it like oxygen, iron, and silicon, which are some of its main parts. Oxygen is the biggest part and it makes up about 45%. There's also a little bit of carbon and nitrogen on the Moon.
