Joseph M.

Profession: Academic post with an international testing corporation

Teaching Experience: I was born and raised in the United States of America. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I have worked in the education sector for more than 9 years. In this capacity I have gained much experience helping students to succeed in education.

I have also earned a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification after successfully completing a 120 hour online course taught by International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT).

I was immediately enrolled in another course taught by ITTT; this new course focused on teaching English to young learners. After successfully completing this 50 hour course, I earned a Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (CTEYL) at International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT).

Over the years, I have also helped many of my friends with conversational English; these Korean, Chinese and Japanese students have been studying in various disciplines at the University of Illinois. During the course of my university life, I met them as friends and began helping them with English. This has provided me with invaluable experience to further help students from those east Asian countries and other regions.

I have prepared lessons for ESL students; you can access them via my Cambly profile.

Interests: Some of my hobbies include strength training, music (classical music e.g. Ralph Vaughan Williams and alternative rock e.g. Siversun Pickups), spending time outdoors, and reading fiction and non-fiction. Some of my favorite fiction novels include Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Of Mice and Men, and the Grapes of Wrath.Regarding non-fiction, I particularly enjoy 'A Quiet Odyssey' (an autobiography written by Mary Paik Lee), Desert Exile by Yoshiko Uchida, 'Dream Makers: Dream Makers The World of Justice Thurgood Marshal', and 'Vendetta' a powerful biographical novel that recounted Robert Kennedy's pursuit of justice in a never-ending battle to rid the United States of organized crime.

I'm interested in learning about other cultures particularly Japan, Korea and China because many of my friends from university are from China, Japan and Korea..

I also enjoy Japanese anime; some of my favorites include Planetes, Ghost in the Shell, Ruroini Kenshin, Kimi ni Todoke, and Outlaw Star.
